memories

Alive

With the dawn, we rise.

But it is with the night

that we come alive.

Our true self realised

with dreams fast escaping,

seeping into reality,

becoming just a memory,

faster than we are ready.

I miss you

It was the smile I remembered the most,

Like sunshine – big, bright and beautiful.

A smile that was almost a laugh,

That brought so much life to the eyes.

It was a smile that could solve a bad day.

It could make you forgot your woes.

It could take you back to a simpler time.

It made you realise the simplicity of what life could be.

All that in a smile.

But even the brightest of smiles couldn’t cure memory’s failures.

I remember, I remember, but the memory fades each day.

It gets a little dimmer as the years go on.

Your smile. I hold on. Still shining. Still so pure.

I hold on as it’s all that I can do.

Are you still smiling?

I’m still here.

Still remembering.

Keep smiling.

Keep smiling for me.
